You know, I still miss having a fandom website that encouraged conversation. I'd still like that to be a thing again.

It's weird how when everyone migrated to Tumblr, it took me a good while to get the hang of reblog culture. I think it's very cool in its own way - I love how it creates a shared culture across the site - but it can't be denied that it's limited. It's a fanfare, not a round-table.

On LJ you made a blog, joined a community, engaged with that community, and made friends. Discord is the worst possible substitute because it's like a firehose when you're looking for a water fountain.

I suppose DW can't be an alternative unless people use it, so here goes again. Let's use it. Let's set that intention. Woo.

newcomers has lots of resources about how to use Dreamwidth and where to find things you'll enjoy here. If you're coming from Tumblr, soc_puppet has posted tutorials for that angle. Find your Tumblr friends here.

The Follow Friday Master Post has lists of active communities by topic where you can look for some based on your interests, including some of the Most Useful Communities. Many bloggers use recurring posts to pin down their key interests and maintain activity, which is also a good source of inspiration if you aren't sure what you want to post yet.

snowflake_challenge is running in January. This is a big event with lots of activity where you can find new friends.

Find fandom at fandomcalendar and fancake. goals_on_dw has signups for various fannish activities such as Fannish 50 and Full Content on Dreamwidth. allbingo hosts a new fest each month; January is Public Domain Day Bingo.

Among the best sites for conversation is tv_talk.
